EGX ends Tuesday near 17,700 pts

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has seen an upward trend on Tuesday, the first session following the Easter and Sham El Nessim holidays, on the back of foreign buying.

The benchmark EGX30 index soared 286.73 points, or 1.65%, closing the session at 17,697 points.

Market capitalisation gained EGP 11.4 billion and closed at EGP 984.5 billion.

Foreign investors were mostly buyers, netting EGP 66.8 million, while Egyptian and Arab investors were net sellers with EGP 40.1 million and EGP 26.7 million, respectively.

The small- and medium-cap index EGX70 edged up 0.25% to 867.73 points, while the broader EGX100 index added 0.95% to 2,259 points.

The equal-weighted EGX50 index went up 1.55% to 3,023 points.

Trading volume reached around 269.4 million shares exchanged at a turnover of EGP 1.57 billion through 32,170 transactions.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) rose 1.32% to EGP 89, with a turnover of EGP 106.8 million.

Juhayna Food Industries led top gainers with a 6.52% increase, followed by GB Auto and Palm Hills which grew 5.66% and 5.11%, respectively.

On the other hand, TMG Holding topped declining blue chips with a 3.08% drop, followed by Arab Cotton Ginning and Global Telecom which fell 1.32% and 1.12%, respectively.
