EGX ends Wednesday in red; CIB hits lowest in 19M

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed Wednesday’s trading session down, pressured by local and Arab selling.

The benchmark EGX30 index fell 1.78% or 273.29 points to 15,042.37 points.

The EGX70 index dropped 1.41% to 862.94 points, while the EGX100 index tumbled 1.19% to 2,041 points.

The equal-weighted EGX50 index retreated 1.84% to 2,690 points.

Market capitalisation closed at EGP 858.5 billion and lost EGP 12 billion.

Trading volume reached about 245.7 million shares exchanged at a turnover of EGP 1.17 billion through 32,800 transactions.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) shed 3.03%, the lowest level since 26 July 2006, to EGP 78.34 at a turnover of EGP 126.6 million.

Foreign investors were mostly buyers, netting EGP 332 million, while Egyptian and Arab investors were net sellers with EGP 324.8 million and EGP 7.2 million, respectively.
