EGX hits 92 – session low; equities shed EGP7.6bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) hit its lowest level since 26 June 2016 on Monday, after the benchmark index EGX30 lost 2.24% or 189 points to close at 8,243.3 points.

The small and medium caps index EGX70 slide 2.2% to 336.4 points, while the broader index EGX100 slipped 1.7% to 787.1 points. Similarly, the equal weighted index EGX50 declined 3.05% to 1,283.7 points.

The CIB, largest constitute of EGX30 went down 1.1% to EGP 52 with trading value of EGP 3.2 million.

The market capitalization shed EGP 7.6 billion reaching EGP 411.9 million.

The foreign investors ended as net sellers with EGP 38.5 million, while Arab and local investors ended as net buyers with EGP 12.1 million and EGP 26.4 million respectively.

Institutions ended as net sellers with EGP 65.9 million, for the second session in row, while retail investors ended as net buyers.

TheThe index’s heavy-weight constituents pulled the index down with the likes of TMG Holding, down 5.5%, EFG Hermes, down 2.9%, and CIB, down 1.1%. All of EGX30 stocks ended in the negative territory except for: Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, up 1.8%, Orascom Construction, up 1.1%, and Cairo Oils and Soap, up 0.3%.

On the flip side, today’s worst performers were; Domty, down 8.5%, ACC, dowm 8.3%, and Edita, down 8.2% market witnessed 969.6 million shares changed hands worth EGP 334.96 million.
