EGX jumps 1.9% to 5-session high

 

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) ended Tuesday’s session on a high note with market capitalisation adding EGP4.4 billion to reach EGP 404.07 billion.

The benchmark EGX30 index was in the green for the second session in a row, adding 1.9% or 140.70 points and closing at 7,549.97 points, its highest level in 5 sessions.

Foreign buying netted EGP 73.62 million, whereas Arab and Egyptian investors continued selling, netting EGP 56.52 million and EGP 17 million, respectively.

The EGX70 index grew 0.45% or 1.66 points to 370.30 points, while EGX50 and EGX 100 gained 0.73% or 5.63 points and 1.44% or 19.84 points to 780.71 points and 1,395.22 points, respectively.

Most of the EGX’s leading stocks were up today, led by the heavy-weighted CIB-Egypt, which rose 1.55% to EGP 44.48, and lead trades with a turnover of EGP 171.433 million.

EFG Hermes leaped 9.03%, while Orascom Telecom Media and Technology (OTMT) and Talaat Mostafa Group (TMG) grew 5.63% and 3.87%, respectively.

Turnover reached EGP 820.97 million after 303.83 million shares were traded through 25,400 transactions.

Market analyst at Al Jazira Securities Mohamed Mamdouh told Mubasher that declining traded value has been noticeable on the EGX lately. He advised investors to make use of the bourse’s sideways performance.
