EGX opens Sunday in red; market cap loses EGP 31.3bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) indices retreated collectively in Sunday’s early trading amid rising concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

At 10:25 a.m. Cairo time, the EGX30 plunged by 8.3% to 10,258 points, while the EGX100 index fell by 4.74% to 1,117 points and the EGX70 index dropped by 3.91%.

Meanwhile, the market cap value shrank by EGP 31.3 billion to EGP 568.42 billion.

The market’s turnover reached EGP 26.47 million after 8.8 million shares were exchanged through around 1,080 transactions.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced the detection of 17 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 110.
