EGX opens Tuesday in red on plunge of global markets

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has seen a bearish trend early Tuesday, in line with the huge losses the global markets witnessed yesterday.

By 10:14 am Cairo time, the benchmark EGX30 index plunged 3.19% or 475 points to 14,484.6 points.

The EGX70 index dropped 3.54% to 829.11 points, while the EGX100 index plummeted 2.89% to 1,991.78 points.

The equal-weighted EGX50 index shed 3.75% to 2,560 points.

Trading volume stood at about 48.7 million shares exchanged at a turnover of EGP 108.6 million through 4,100 transactions.

Arab traders were net buyers with EGP 4.3 million, while foreign and Egyptian traders were net sellers with EGP 401,700 and EGP 3.9 million respectively.

The heavyweight Commercial International Bank (CIB) went down 3.31% to EGP 74.57 at a turnover of EGP 3.5 million.

The US’ indices have sharply fallen on Monday’s trading session, as Dow Jones hit all-time lowest, losing 1,175 points.
