EGX slides for 2nd session in row

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) continued its downturn trend for the second successive session on Monday, after its benchmark EGP30 index declined by 205 points, or 1.47%, to close at 13,753 points.

The downturn slowed down from Sunday’s trading session, vice chairman of Mubasher Capital Holding Financial Services Ehab Rashad told Mubasher.

Rashad expects the Egyptian bourse to witness profit-taking activity by mutual funds and highly-solvent individuals in the coming sessions.

The small- and mid-cap EGX70 index retreated 1.79% to 499.93 points, while the broader EGX100 index dropped by 1.72% to 1,334 points.

Meanwhile, the equal-weighted EGX50 index slid by 2.07% to 1,925 points.

Market capitalisation lost EGP 8.91 billion to EGP 694.11 billion on Monday from EGP 702.3 billion on Sunday.

Trading volume reached 348.2 million securities exchanged at a turnover of EGP 3.65 billion through nearly 32,570 transactions.

Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers with EGP 296.61 million and EGP 11.33 million, respectively, while foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 307.94 million.
