EGX30 loses 0.81% at Sunday open on interest rate hike

Cairo – Mubasher: The benchmark EGX30 index of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) declined in Sunday’s early trading by 0.81% or 108 points to the level of 13,261.86 points, affected by the Central Bank of Egypt’s (CBE) decision to raise interest rates by 200 basis points.

By 10:10 am Cairo time, the EGX50 index also fell 1.16%, while the EGX70 and EGX100 indices rose by 0.33% and 0.09%, respectively.

Foreign investors were net sellers by EGP 1.6 million, while Egyptian and Arab traders were net buyers by EGP 1.4 million and EGP 203,000, respectively.

Delta Construction, Juhayna, Porto, Telecom Egypt, and GMC dropped between 4.11% and 2.38%.

The Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) retreated 0.28% to EGP 80.80.

On the other hand, Orascom Telecom rose by 1.52%.
