EU to invest EUR 110m in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: The European Union (EU) is planning to invest EUR 110 million in Egypt this year, the EU ambassador to Egypt said.

The EU will earmark this sum for a number of programmes and projects, including education, water, energy, combating female genital mutilation (FGM), and building skills, Daily News Egypt reported, citing Ivan Surkos.

The EU is also looking to develop schools and improve the quality of education in the North African country with EUR 25 million in financing, Surkos added.

He further noted that almost EUR 75 million will be injected into a study for water and energy projects, as well as the development of rural areas.

Moreover, around EUR 5 million will be raised for combating FGM in Egypt, he indicated.
