Mubasher: Randa El-Menshawy, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities & Urban Communities, held talks with a delegation from Acwa Power Company to discuss the operation of seawater desalination plants within the framework of the strategic plan for water desalination until 2050.
El-Menshawy emphasized the importance of seawater desalination projects, which back sustainable urban development plans, the expansion of new cities, and the development of coastal areas.
During the meeting, the minister outlined the government’s strategic plan to support seawater desalination up to 2050, highlighting promising investment opportunities offered to enhance private sector participation in desalination projects.
For their part, the company officials expressed their full readiness to participate in these major development projects, given that Egypt possesses major opportunities in the field of seawater desalination.
They also reviewed proposals for implementing projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, along with plans for localizing the industry, with a focus on achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency and reducing energy consumption.
In 2025, Acwa Power signed a 25-year deal with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to develop Egypt’s largest wind farm with a significant investment of approximately $2.30 billion.
