Egypt, AfDB ink $150m water plant loan

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian government and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) have signed an agreement to finance the development of the Abu Rawash wastewater treatment plant.

The $150 million agreement was signed by the minister of investment and international cooperation, Sahar Nasr, and Malinne Blomberg, AfDB’s country manager in Egypt.

The financing agreement will help increase the plant’s initial capacity by 400,000 square metres per day to a total of 1.6 million square meters.

It is worth noting that the project will be carried out through an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, and not a public–private partnership (PPP).
