Egypt, Africa H1 trade exchange hits $2.4bn

Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and the African countries stood at $2.43 billion in the first half of 2017, Egypt’s trade minister Tarek Kabil told MENA.

The volume of Egypt’s exports to African countries amounted to $1.66 billion, while imports totalled $768 million, Kabil highlighted.

The Egyptian government seeks to reach a final agreement regarding the African Free Trade Zone (AFTZ), he noted during his meeting with the African Union Commissioner for Trade and Industry’s ambassador Albert Muchanga.

“This agreement will create a continental market of more than billion people and a gross domestic product of about $3 trillion, which will achieve the continent’s economic integration,” he continued.

Trade exchange between both parties reached $4.8 billion in 2016, up from $4.5 billion in 2015.
