Egypt, France ink 3 transport deals - Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s minister of transport Hisham Arafat has signed a letter of intent (LOL) with the French deputy finance minister to implement an integrated transport system study in Mansoura city with an EUR 500,000 grant from France.

This came as a part of the Egyptian ministry’s plan to set up a modern mass transit system in the crowded areas outside Cairo, Arafat said in a statement.

Moreover, Arafat has signed a LOL with the CEO of Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF) for the cooperation between the French company and the Egyptian National Railways (ENR).

Upon this LOL, employees working in the ENR will be provided with technical support, skills development, and continuous training, he highlighted.

The minister also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the CEO of the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP Group) Laurence Batlle to study the operation and maintenance of Cairo Metro Line 3.

On 13 August 2017, Arafat said that the ministry is currently working on developing three railway lines at a value of EGP 7 billion.
