Egypt, Germany agree on EUR 132.8m development funding

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation agreed with representatives of German governmental and developmental institutions on a EUR 132.8 million funding to be directed to 11 new projects in 2021.

Th grants and financial contributions will finance new projects in vocational education, job creation, and private sector support, risk guarantee system support, solid waste management, and efficient use of water, according to a statement on Monday.

The developmental projects are also aimed at enhancing the management of water and sanitation, e-government, administrative reform, community participation, inclusion of youth, women, and people with disabilities in the national development process, and development of infrastructure.

The cooperation includes mutual cooperation agreements and the debt swap programme.

The first phase of the Egyptian-German debt swap programme includes projects worth EUR 70 million, while the second phase includes projects valued at EUR 90 million.

The current cooperation portfolio between Egypt and Germany amounted to EUR 1.7 billion directed to several sectors such as irrigation, sanitation, energy, private sector, urban development, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), environment, education, administrative reform, governance, agriculture, and social protection.
