Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday with Jordan for mutual cooperation in the field of natural gas.
The MoU has been signed in the presence of the Egyptian minister of petroleum and mineral resources Tarek El-Molla and his Jordanian counterpart.
The first MoU was signed between the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company, the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), and the Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Co (EFNG).
This agreement aims to establish a joint company in the field of the operation and maintenance of oil and gas pipelines and networks in Jordan.
The second agreement was signed between the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company, the EFNG, and Egypt Gas.
This second MoU seeks to prepare the feasibility studies for the household natural gas connection projects and for commercial and industrial projects in Aqaba, Amman, Zarqa, and Irbid.
The entrance of Egyptian gas companies to the Jordanian market is a powerful step that represents a paramount opportunity for expansion, El-Molla added in a statement on Tuesday.
On 17 July 2017, the minister said that the petroleum sector’s strategy in developing natural gas fields will contribute in increasing Egypt's gas output by 100% in 2020.
