Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will sign contracts of the electricity interconnection project with Saudi Arabia within a few days, Egyptian electricity minister Mohammed Shaker said.
The minister added that the joint electricity linkage project includes exporting around 3,000 megawatts, according to Enterprise press.
The North African nation has already completed its obligations in regard to the substations, while Saudi Arabia has not decided the contract signing date yet, a top official at the Egyptian electricity ministry revealed.
Shaker had previously said Egypt’s electricity interconnection project with Saudi Arabia would put into effect in 2021.
In December 2017, the minister also unveiled that the Arab world's most populous country would sign $1.56 billion contracts of the project with Saudi Arabia in April 2018.
Egypt-Saudi Arabia electricity interconnection project includes the extension of a 20-kilometre submarine cable, with a capacity of up to 3000 megawatts, over the Gulf of Aqaba.
