Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), has concluded the draft agreement of the Egyptian programme project that aims to enhance electrical motors’ efficiency in the industrial sector.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) will contribute a value worth $2.75 million in the new project, the ministry disclosed on Wednesday.
The four-year project will be carried out by UNIDO starting 2020, in collaboration with the Egyptian ministry and the private sector.
The project aims to promote for innovation and technology in the energy use efficiency, said the trade minister assistant for industry affairs, Ahmed Taha.
He further asserted that the latest estimates revealed that Egypt owns around a million motors with a capacity exceeding 17 gigawatts, of which the industrial sector represents 86%.
In addition, he noted that motor systems consume 60% of the total electricity demand in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the chairwoman of the developmental projects sector at the trade ministry, Sherine Khallaf, said that the project targets to cut the energy consumption in electrical motor systems by 40%.
In addition, she highlighted that the new project complements the successful project of energy use efficiency in the industrial sector, which was executed in 2018, as well as the use of solar energy in heating for industrial operations project that is expected to complete in early 2021.
