Egypt, US in talks to support infrastructure projects in Africa

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation, Sahar Nasr, has held talks with US deputy secretary of commerce, Karen Dunn Kelley, to consider the means to support the establishment of infrastructure projects in Africa.

The two sides discussed possible ways to attract investments to Africa and boost the role of African Export Import Bank in the continent, Nasr said in a statement on Thursday.

Total bilateral agreements signed under the USAID programme has reached about $600 million since 2014 which were directed to finance health, education, agriculture, sewage, tourism, archaeology, governance, and women and youth empowerment.

An amount of $200 million has been allocated to finance small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship through Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund during the period from 2014 until now.

The total value of US investments in Egypt reached $22 billion at the end of 2018.

During fiscal year 2017/2018, US companies injected new investments worth about $1 billion in Egypt.
