Egypt, US pen $60m grant agreements

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt and the US have signed four grant agreements worth $60 million to finance higher education, science, technology, health, commerce, and investment sectors.

Such grants will be used to support developmental plans, create jobs for university graduates, provide scholarships, develop micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and entrepreneurs, and improve vocational education and training, Egypt’s minister of investment Sahar Nasr said in a statement on Sunday.

The two countries also agreed to cooperate in developing the country’s transportation sector, Nasr added.

The agreements also focus on supporting the private sector, especially in the renewable energy field, director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Egypt, Sherry Carlin, said.
