Egypt, World Bank discuss broadband roll-out plan

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian communications and information technology minister has discussed with the World Bank’s lead information and communications technology (ICT) policy specialist Carlo Rossotto the strategies to boost the roll-out of the broadband service in the country.

The discussions came within the cooperation framework between the ministry and the World Bank, Amr Talaat said in a statement on Tuesday.

This specifically relates to the development of a strategy to deploy the superfast internet services, with the bank providing the ministry with technical support.

The Washington-based lender would work with the ministry on developing an economic model in which the ICT sector contributes further to Egypt’s economic growth, Talaat added.

Egypt has the potential to become a regional hub for digital infrastructure, the statement said.
