Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt Air, the national airline, has agreed to buy eight Boeing B737-800 aircraft, said Civil Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal, adding that procedures and initial signing were completed with BOC Aviation, while final agreement signing would be concluded in the few coming days.
Egypt’s government is keen on boosting the airline’s fleet and improving service to passengers to maintain strong level of competitiveness globally, according to the minister.
Kamal also said the contract is a first phase of Egypt Air upgrade plan till 2025.
Upon wrapping up the deal and starting to receive ownership of the planes as of the second half of 2016, the fleet’s average age would be less than eight years, as the B737-800 planes will replace the eight A320-200 Airbus planes, according to the minister.
