Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and Belgium rose 11% year-on-year in 2017, recording EUR 1.6 billion from EUR 1.4 billion a year earlier.
Egyptian exports to the Belgian market surged 28% to EUR 320 million last year, compared to EUR 250 million in 2016, Egyptian trade minister Tarek Kabil said in a statement on Tuesday.
For his part, Ahmed Antar, head of the Egyptian Commercial Service Office (ECS), said that more than 80% of the North African nation’s exports to Belgium during 2017 were of plastic, electronics, cables, fruits and vegetables, iron and steel, ceramic, ready-made clothing, and chemicals.
In June 2017, Egyptian investment minister Sahar Nasr had previously announced that Belgian investments in Egypt stood at $672 million distributed over 186 firms.
