Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and the South American trade bloc Mercosur rose by 23.4% to record around $316 million in January 2018, up from $242 million in the same month a year earlier.
The balance of trade between both parties amounted to $300 million last January and is in favour of the Mercosur, which includes Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, state-run news agency MENA reported, citing data by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC).
Bilateral trade between the North African nation and the Mercosur fell by 3.8% to $4.5 billion last year, against $4.7 billion in 2016.
Egyptian non-oil exports to the Mercosur retreated by 27.3% to $8 million in the first month of 2018, compared to $11 million in the prior-year period.
Meanwhile, Egyptian non-oil imports from the Mercosur grew by 33.3% to $308 million in January, versus $231 million in the first month of 2016.
