Egypt OKs formation of textile council

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's minister of trade has issued a decree to form the Higher Council for Textile Industries with the aim of bolstering the textile sector in the country and raise its competitiveness.

The new council will also help develop and increase Egyptian exports for ready-made clothes and textiles in general, Tarek Kabil said in a statement released Friday.

Textiles are considered a key sector in the ministry's strategy to boost industrial development and foreign trade by 2020, the minister added, noting that textile industries will also provide jobs and increase exports to regional and global markets.

The minister's decree also entailed that the Higher Council for Textile Industries will convene once every three months, or at any time the head of the council or five of its members call for a meeting.
