Egypt-Russia bilateral trade hikes 59% in 10M

Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and Russia jumped by 59% year-on-year in the first 10 months of 2017, acting Russian trade representative in Cairo Nikolai Aslanov told MENA.

Aslanov added that Egypt-Russia bilateral trade surpassed $4.6 billion in the January-October period, according to statistics by the Federal Customs Service of Russia.

Russian exports to Egypt amounted to $4.2 billion, while Egyptian exports to Russia rose by 33% to $446 million, he highlighted.

Moscow’s wheat exports to Cairo reached $1.16 billion, accounting for 28% of total Russian exports to Egypt, he noted.

Egypt’s vegetables and fruits exports to Russia totalled $351 million, representing 79% of Egypt’s total exports to Russia.

Total Russian cumulative investment in Egypt amounted to $4.6 billion at the end of December 2017, as almost 60% of these investments are in the oil and natural gas field, Aslanov stressed.

Egypt’s trade minister Tarek Kabil last stated that the country’s trade deficit dropped 26% year-on-year to $12 billion in the first 11 months of 2017.
