Egypt-US bilateral trade hits $7.5bn in FY18

Cairo – Mubasher: Trade exchange between Egypt and the US amounted to $7.53 billion in 2018, compared to $5.63 billion in 2017, the Egyptian trade minister said on Tuesday.

Non-oil Egyptian exports to the US valued at $1.66 billion last year, versus $1.44 billion in 2017, Amr Nassar added in a statement.

Meanwhile, Egypt has imported products worth around $5 billion from the US over the course of the previous year, versus $3.99 billion in 2017, the minister highlighted.

The Egyptian-American economic ties strategically focus on achieving integrated development and benefiting from the industrial, commercial, and investment abilities in both countries, Nassar said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi headed today to the US capital, Washington, and met with Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State.

It is worth noting that the fourth round of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between Egypt and the US is set to be held within the next few days in Washington.
