Cairo – Mubasher: The government seeks to expand the total land area of cotton cultivation to 350,000 acres by the end of 2017, the spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Khaled Abdel Dayem said in an interview on DMC channel.
Abdel Dayem also referred to the recovery of cotton cultivation in Egypt by 220,000 acres since the beginning of the year, compared to 130,000 acres in 2016.
Farmers are facing challenges related to the high prices of fertilisers, the head of the Farmers' Syndicate Mahmoud Fat said.
On 24 July 2017, the ministry announced that it aims to increase the size of the total land area of cotton cultivation to 1 million acres by fiscal year 2018/2019.
