Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt aims to produce between 2.5 million and 2.6 million tonnes of sugar in fiscal year 2020/2021, head of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Sugar Crops Council, Mostafa Abdel Gawad, told Reuters.
The official expected 1.6 million tonnes of sugar beet and 900,000 tonnes of sugar cane to be produced by local farmers this year, covering about 80% of the local consumption.
The remaining amount will be imported to meet the local demand.
Earlier, the supply minister Ali El-Moselhy revealed that the country’s sugar reserves are enough for 6.5 months.
