Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government is aiming at raising exports to $23 billion by the end of 2017, head of the Egyptian General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) Sherine El-Shorbagy told Alborsa News.
The Egyptian exports amounted to $14 billion in the first nine months of the current year, equivalent to 60% of the government’s target, El-Shorbagy added.
She noted that the Ministry of Trade and Finance seeks to increase exports by 10% over the next year to record $25.3 billion.
On 19 September, minister of finance Amr El-Garhy said that the volume of Egypt’s exports reached $20 billion in fiscal year 2016/2017.
In April, the trade minister Tarek Kabil stressed that Egypt’s trade deficit retreated by 46.24% or $5.669 billion in the first quarter of 2017.
Egypt’s trade deficit stood at about $49 billion in the prior fiscal year, as the Egyptian government is working on diminishing it by 50% during the current fiscal year.
