Egypt aims to vaccinate 40m citizens by 2021-end

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, Hala Zayed, expected that the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will start in the second half of September as the number of infections are increasing, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday. 

The ministry has increased the number of intensive care beds and added new production lines for medicines, Zayed said, adding that COVID-19 isolation hospitals will be reopened in the coming period. 

The ministry aims to vaccinate 7-8 million citizens per month, with expectations to vaccinate 40 million people by the end of 2021, she added. 

She affirmed that vaccination will be mandatory for all employees at the administrative body. 

The Egyptian Holding Company for Biopharmaceuticals and Vaccines (Vacsera) has the capacity to produce 200 million doses of the vaccine at its Agouza factory and 1 billion doses at its factory in SIxth of October City on an annual basis.
