Egypt allocates EGP 2.4bn for health insurance in FY18/19

Cairo – Mubasher: Allowances of Egypt's health insurance programme amount to around EGP 2.34 billion in fiscal year 2018/2019, finance minister Amr El-Garhy said on Sunday.

The minister remarked that the health insurance’s allocations will be in favour of students, widowed women, toddlers, and farmers, according to state-run news agency MENA.

Earlier this month, deputy finance minister Mohamed Maait said that Egypt's total expenditure on the healthcare sector stood at around EGP 145 billion now, of which 62% is provided by citizens.

The North African nation also seeks to achieve an economic growth of 5.8% and to cut the unemployment rate to below 11% in fiscal year 2018/2019.

The finance ministry aims to achieve a surplus of 2% of the gross domestic product (GDP), which would consecutively help slash the general budget’s debt by 91% to 92% of GDP.
