Egypt allocates EGP 93.5bn to healthcare in FY20/21

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has allocated EGP 93.5 billion for the healthcare sector in its budget for fiscal year 2020/2021, up by 28% from the allocated amount in FY19/20, the country’s planning minister Hala El-Saeed said.

The investment plan for FY20/21 includes government investments of EGP 21.1 billion directed to the healthcare sector, representing 8% of the total government investments and rising by 72% from FY19/20, El-Saeed added in a report on Wednesday.

Cairo accounts for the largest share of 33% of the government investments allocated to the healthcare sector, followed by Dakahlia, Suez, Giza, and Sohag with 5.2%, 4.9% 4.7%, and 4.5%, respectively.

The Upper Egyptian governorates acquire 21% of the total government investments directed to the healthcare sector.

The country’s universal healthcare system initiative includes the development of 79 hospitals and 294 primary healthcare units in nine of the top priority governorates.
