Egypt asks EU to delay cancelling customs on European car imports

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Trade and Industry Ministry has asked the European Union (EU) to delay the cancellation of customs duties on European car imports for another one or two years.

The EU has not responded to the request yet, three sources familiar with the matter told Enterprise on Wednesday.

According to Egypt’s trade liberalisation agreement with the European block, customs duties on European car imports are expected to be slashed as of January 2019.

In case of approving Egypt’s request, this would be the EU’s second time to agree on pushing back the agreement, sources said.

Meanwhile, if the request was refused, the implementation of 0% customs duties on car imports from the EU would take place 1 January 2019.
