Cairo – Mubasher: The General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) has signed a contract to purchase 120,000 tonnes of Russian and Romanian wheat through a tender under the new general budget, according to a statement.
The average buying price is $177.17 per tonne. The new purchase will raise strategic wheat reserves to meet demand till early February 2017.
Under the contract, Egypt will buy 60,000 tonnes of Russian wheat and 60,000 tonnes of Romanian wheat to ensure the availability of subsidised wheat for producing bread to Egyptian citizens, said minister of supply and internal trade Khaled Hanafi.
