Egypt c.bank sells $1.5bn in exceptional FX auction

Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) sold $1.52 billion to banks in an exceptional auction Wednesday at a cut-off price of 8.78 per dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar exchange rate at banks today stood at EGP 8.83 for buying and EGP 8.88 for selling, according to the National Bank of Egypt.

During the period 13-17 March, the central bank Egypt offered three exceptional auctions at $200 million for the first two ones and $1.5 billion on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, CBE devalued the Egyptian pound to 8.85 per dollar from 7.73 per dollar.
