Egypt closes schools for two weeks

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Cabinet has suspended study in schools and universities across the nation for two weeks, starting from Sunday 15 March.

The decision was directed by President Abdelfattah El-Sisi to Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, as part of the country’s plan to face the outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Egyptian Presidency’s spokesperson, Bassam Rady.

The President has also ordered the allocation of EGP 100 billion to fund a comprehensive strategy to deal with the virus through the necessary precautionary measures.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Egypt reached 109, Madbouly said in a press conference earlier today.

The Prime Minister further noted that sports events and large gatherings will be halted, noting that the two-week break will be used to sterilize and disinfect school and university buildings across Egypt.
