Egypt collects $120m earnings from Centamin's Sukari mine

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt started to have a profit share in the earnings generated by Centamin's Sukari mine, country's sole gold-exporting mine, starting from last July when it collected $120 million, said Minister of Petroleum Tareq El Molla.

“The country will hold its first international tender for gold mining concessions since 2009 in early December,” added El Molla on the sideline of economic conference.

Centamin is well-based Australian mining company that operates the Sukari Gold Mine in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, located approximately 700km from Cairo.

In June 2009, the company announced its first gold pour followed by the commencement of commercial production in April 2010.

Centamin’s shareholders have invested over $1bn in the exploration, development, construction, and expansion of the Sukari Gold Mine.
