Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt's Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) are mulling over a mechanism to recoup cash subsidy disbursed to undeserving families and hold violators accountable.
The ministry plans to open an account to retake the subsidy from those who do not deserve it as well as automate the database of the neediest, government officials told local newspaper Alborsa.
Around 60% of the families have recently been excluded from the Takaful and Karama cash transfer programme due to having agricultural holdings, in addition to stepping up efforts to scrutinise data of the programme’s beneficiaries, officials said
The value of the cash transfers exceeded EGP 19 billion this year, Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali said.
