Egypt delivers natural gas to 715,000 homes at EGP 1.5bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government started pumping natural gas into 715,000 new residential units at a value of EGP 1.5 billion in 2015/16, said EGAS Vice Chairman Gamal Hegazy.

The installment process was carried out by 14 companies, of which six state-run entities and eight private firms respectively executed 64% and 36% of the overall project, Hegazy added.

During last June, the Ministry of Finance allocated EGP 134.4 million for paying off EGAS dues in return for executing operations related to natural gas delivery.

Around 710,000 new residential units started using natural gas rather than LPG cylinders in the fiscal year2014/15, thus raising the total number of natural-gas operating units to 7.6 million since 1981.

It is noteworthy that subsidies on petroleum products reached EGP 61 billion according to FY15/16 budget, compared with EGP 74 billion a year earlier.
