Egypt eyes 45% gas production from Zohr - Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt is looking to produce 45% of its total natural gas output from the supergiant offshore gas field Zohr in the Mediterranean when it completes production cycle next June, the Egyptian petroleum minister said.

Gas output from Zohr stands at two billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), accounting for 30% of the North African country’s gas production, Tarek El-Molla added in an interview to Sada El Balad TV.

The government seeks to boost domestic gas production in the exploration phase, El-Molla indicated.

The minister stated that the most populous Arab country is currently accelerating the manufacturing of the fifth, sixth, and seventh production units at Zohr in Port Said.

The remaining production units will raise the capacity of the onshore treatment plant to reach over 3 bcfd in 2019, El-Molla noted.

In 2017, El-Molla said that Zohr began to inject natural gas output into Port Said treatment plant with an initial production capacity of 350 mcfd.
