Egypt eyes EGP 438.7m debt issues in Q4-17/18

Cairo – Mubasher: The Ministry of Finance (MoF) plans to issue treasury bills and bonds (T-bills) and (T-bonds) worth a total of EGP 436.75 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2017/2018.

The MoF is scheduled to sell T-bills and T-bonds worth a combined of EGP 132.5 million and EGP 166.5 million in April and May 2018, respectively, the ministry’s data showed.

The ministry also plans to issue T-bills and T-bonds at a combined value of EGP 139.75 million next June.

The MOF posted a 51% year-on-year surge in T-bill issues for the second quarter of fiscal year 2017/2018, according to the ministry's recent data.

Egypt’s debt instruments, especially T-bills, are attractive to foreign investors owing to their high yield.

State-run banks are the largest holders of the government’s debt instruments.
