Cairo – Mubasher: The communications ministry set up a new strategy to turn Egypt into a regional or an international data hub over the next period, communications minister Yasser El-Kady said.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was briefed on this strategy, upon which the North African nation is projected to be a data centre across the world, El-Kady added during a press conference.
The minister highlighted that the communications and information technology (IT) sector has been the most thriving worldwide over the past three years, according to state-run news agency MENA.
Communications and IT exports totalled $1.87 billion in fiscal year 2016/2017, the communication ministry's data showed.
The fresh strategy will be valid until 2025, targeting to boost the sector's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) to 8%, the minister remarked, adding that IT exports reached $20bn.
