Egypt fines Qatar’s beIN Sports EGP 400m over monopoly practices

Cairo – Mubasher: Cairo Economic Court has fined the chairperson of Qatar-based beIN Sports Nasser Al-Khalif with EGP 400 million ($22.6 million) over monopolistic practices.

On 3 January, it has been proven that beIN Sports violated Article No. 8 of competition protection on the back of linking seasonal tournaments to the periodical ones, according to a statement by the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) on Tuesday.

In 2014, the Qatari company has forced several viewers in Egypt to subscribe to beIN Sports bundle for a year to watch FIFA World Cup.
