Egypt foresees $15bln investments in renewable energy sector

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt anticipates investments between $12 to 15 billion in its renewable energy sector within the next four years, Investment Minister Ashraf Salman said on Monday.

“The country launched recently Wind and solar photovoltaics (PV) under the feed-in-tariff scheme that presents investment opportunities within the range of $4.5 billion to $5 billion,” added Salman on the sidelines of a renewable energy summit.

The scheme is expected to add 2,000 gigawatts of wind power, and 2,500 gigawatts of solar power, noted Minister.

Salam pointed out that the scheme has been awarded to number of companies and they are expected to commence operations within the upcoming few months.

As for the electricity linkage project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, he assured that the project developments are on track where it is expected to start operating through the next two years.
