Egypt gov’t spends $2.7m on boosting electricity supply

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government spent EGP 24 billion ($2.7 billion) to carry out Egypt’s electricity-enhancing urgent plans in two years, said Mohamed Shaker, the Minister of Electricity and Energy.

By the upcoming summer, power generation will hit 32,000 MW after installing new stations and developing the existing ones, the minister added on the launch of a number of power projects in Asyut Governorate.

Over the past two hot days, the power grids transmitted 29,000 MW.

Further, the ministry announced establishing three huge power stations worth EUR 6 million in Beni Suef, Al Borollos, and the new administrative capital, Shaker stated, adding they will raise the capacity by 14,000 MW in 2018.

Earlier, the Ministry of Electricity concluded an agreement worth $250 million with GE Grid Solutions to provide GE’s advanced gas-insulated switchgear technology with four substations, which will connect 7 GW to the national grid and satisfy the needs of more 6.5 million houses all over Egypt.
