Egypt imports $500m LNG shipments in Q1-18/19

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has imported 17 shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) worth $500 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018/2019, the petroleum ministry's spokesman said on Sunday.

The North African nation imported 18 shipments of LNG in FY16/17 at a value of $15 billion and around 76 shipments worth $1.8 billion in FY17/18, Hamdi Abdelaziz told Reuters.

Abdelaziz noted that Egypt would save around $1.5 billion a year after halting LNG imports.

On Saturday, the Egyptian petroleum minister decided to halt importing LNG.

This decision came after the Arab world's most populous country received the final LNG cargoes last week, petroleum minister Tarek El-Molla told the London-based news agency.

On 13 September, the minister stated that output from Egypt’s giant offshore gas field Zohr rose by 350 million cubic feet per day to reach two billion cubic feet daily.
