Cairo-Mubasher: Egypt has raised tariffs on some commodities, to curb dollar spending on imports as the country struggles through a currency crisis.
The commodities range from food and clothes to toiletries and electric equipment. The new tariffs will be implemented as of 1 February.
The tariffs for nuts were raised by 20%, fruit (20-40%) and sugar (20%), according to a decree issued on Sunday by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The tariffs for electric equipment, perfumes, footwear and clothes were increased by 40% each.
