Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s industrial production, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, jumped 7.2% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2017, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said.
The country’s industrial output amounted to EGP 145.3 billion from July to September 2017, compared to EGP 135.5 billion in the year-ago period, CAPMAS added.
Food products industry is considered the most important activity, representing 19% of the total industrial production, followed by iron and steel industry, precious metals with 17.1%, and chemicals and fertilisers with 10.2%.
The value of pharmaceuticals and chemicals production surged 24% to EGP 7.9 billion in Q3-17, from EGP 6.3 billion during Q2-17.
The state-run statistics body further noted that the value of chemicals industries rose 3.9%, reaching EGP 14.8 billion in Q3-17.
The value of food products industry declined 17.1% to EGP 27.6 billion in Q3-17, compared to EGP 33.3 billion in the year-ago period.
