Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s consumer price index (CPI) reached 32.5% in March, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Monday.
The CPI declined in March by 2.1% year-on-year, while it rose 4.2% and 2.7% compared to rates of January and February respectively.
The country’s inflation rate hit 31.7% in February and 29.6% in January, the highest rates since the 1940s, triggered by an increase in the prices of food and beverages.
CAPMAS attributed the rise in inflation rates to an increase of 7.1% in the prices of vegetables, 3.4% in meat and poultry prices, fish and seafood (10.6%), fruits (7.2%), and tobacco (7.3%).
