Egypt inflation up to 32.9% in April - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s consumer price index (CPI) reached 32.9% in April, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Wednesday in a statement.

The CPI increased in April by 1.8% month-on-month, while it rose by 2.1% in March and 2.7% in February.

The country’s inflation rate hit 32.5% in March and 31.7% in February, the highest rates since the 1940s, triggered by an increase in the prices of food and beverages.

CAPMAS attributed the rise in inflation rates to an increase of 7.2% in the prices of vegetables, 2.5% in meat and poultry prices, fish and seafood (7.9%), and fruits (4.6%).
